If you’ve been trying to find a straight answer on photographer Manchester prices, you’ve probably noticed it’s not simple. One quote might be a few hundred pounds, another a few thousand. It’s enough to make your head spin.

I’ve been a photographer in this city for years, and I remember what it was like to be on the other side of the lens, trying to figure out a budget. So I wanted to put together a guide that’s actually useful. This isn’t about London agency rates or vague averages.

This is about what you can really expect to pay for quality photography here in Manchester right now.

Fashion work here hits a great balance. You’re getting serious creative talent, but you’re not paying the premium you would in London.

Most fashion shoots like lookbooks or model tests are booked for a half day or full day. A half day, which is around four hours, will usually set you back between £350 and £650. For that, you can expect to get around 8 to 15 beautifully edited images, colour grading, and the rights to use them on your website and social media. It’s a solid fit for local boutiques, e-commerce brands, or independent designers.

If you book a full day, roughly eight hours, the cost is typically between £650 and £1,200. You’ll get more images, usually 15 to 35, and the higher end of that range often covers a fuller production with assistants or stylists.

The main things that affect the final price are how much retouching is needed, the number of outfit changes, and whether we’re shooting in a studio or on location around the city.

Event photography is one of the most straightforward markets in Manchester. You can book excellent photographers at transparent rates.

Well-regarded Manchester event photographers, for example, charge around £150 per hour or about £850 for a full day of coverage. Most professional quotes will fall somewhere between £150 for a couple of hours and £630 for a more substantial booking.

To give you a clearer picture:

  • An hourly rate is usually between £80 and £175.

  • A half-day (four hours) is typically £350 to £500, and you’ll get somewhere between 80 and 200 edited images.

  • A full day (eight hours) is usually £650 to £900, with the final gallery containing 200 to 400 images.

With event work, you rarely pay per image. Instead, the photographer delivers all the usable shots from the day. The quoted price nearly always includes the editing, a private online gallery, web-friendly usage rights, and travel within Manchester. If you need a second photographer or the images the very next day, those are usually added on.

This is where photography starts to feel more like a true investment. Brand photography isn’t just about taking pictures; it’s about creating visual assets that work for your business, which is why usage rights become a bigger part of the conversation.

For commercial work in Manchester, a skilled photographer might charge around £175 per hour or £1,000 for a full day. That’s a typical benchmark for quality work.

Specifically:

  • A half-day brand shoot, lasting four hours, will generally be between £500 and £900. You’d receive 8 to 20 expertly edited images.

  • A full day, around eight hours, ranges from £900 to £1,500. The final delivery is usually 20 to 50 images, covering everything from lifestyle shots to product details.

Some photographers also offer per-image pricing for branding sessions. You might pay £25 to £75 for a standard image, and more like £75 to £250 for that one standout ‘hero’ shot that will define your campaign.

Half-Day vs Full-Day Shoots

It helps to know the industry standard: a half day is generally four hours of shooting, and a full day is eight.

Think of it this way:

  • A half day might cost around £400 to £500.

  • A full day might be around £800 to £950.

Because you’re booking the photographer’s entire day and blocking out other potential work, a full day usually works out to be 10 to 20% better value than booking two separate half days.

So when would you choose each one?

A half day is perfect for a focused job, like covering a smaller event, doing a personal branding session, or creating content for social media.

A full day is the better fit for bigger projects: a full marketing campaign, a day-long conference, or a complex brand shoot that needs time for multiple setups.

What Affects Photography Costs in Manchester

Experience level makes a big difference. Beginner photographers (0–2 years) charge £200–£400/day. Intermediate shooters (3–7 years) run £400–£700/day. Experienced photographers hit £700–£1,200+. The average Manchester freelancer day rate sits around £445.

Usage and licensing is where photographers often undercharge. Here's typical pricing:

  • Social media and website marketing: usually included

  • Paid ads: +£100–£300

  • Regional campaigns: +£300–£1,000

  • Full buyout (you own everything): +£1,000–£5,000

Manchester clients rarely need global rights unless agencies are involved.

Post-production adds up. Basic colour correction is included, but light retouching runs £3–£10/image, fashion retouch hits £10–£35/image, and high-end commercial retouch can go £50–£150/image.

Travel within Manchester is usually free. Outside the city, expect £0.45–0.50 per mile with parking charged to you.

Rush fees apply if you need images fast: 24-hour delivery adds £50–£200, same-day adds £150–£300.

You know exactly what you’re getting. No hidden extras, just straightforward packages built around the kind of work I love to do.
